A fresh look at blogrolls.
- Blogrolls are the social in blogging.
- A blogroll says who I follow, and suggests writers you might find interesting.
- Blogrolls are where social media comes from.
- So now we bring new features from social media back to the world of blogging, via the humble blogroll, of course!
- To the right, what we call a social blogroll.
- The blogs appear in the order of their last update, ie when something new was posted.
- When you click a wedge, links to the five most recent items appear. Click the link to see the post.
- A blog moves to the top of the list, automatically, in real time when it updates.
- And of course you can use it to follow news orgs, even social media accounts.
- And when one of the the blogs in your blogroll updates it moves to the top of the list, and all the expanded stories stay expanded.
- In other words it goes far beyond where blogrolls were the last time you looked.
- Behind this prototype is an OPML file, a list of interesting blogs hosted by Automattic. It's a good base of content to get started with. When this is ready as a product, anyone will be able to supply their own list, and display it anywhere, just like a blogroll, which is what it is. :-)
